Frequently Asked Questions
We have provided several questions that are asked often about our
concrete services, if you have a question that is not listed below,
please contact us. We are happy to answer any of your questions.
Is the floor slick?
No! This unique process directs water out from
under foot similar to vehicle tire tread thus leaving you with a
floor surface well
within standard OSHA and ADA limits. Click
here for studies <coming soon!>.
How soon is the floor returned to service?
This is one
of the most impressive attributes of the system. The floor may be
decommissioned immediately. Equally as convenient it
is okay to have normal operation traffic on the treated areas, between
application phases, prior to system completion. This insures that
your day-to-day operations are not interrupted. It is better than
having your car repaired without having to drop it off at the mechanic.
How long does it take the floor to cure?
There is about
a 60-day maturation period after application. During this time continual
reaction further deifies the treated areas. So,
unlike coatings or toppings which look good on day one and begin
to deteriorate from there. The polished concrete system gets better
with time.
Does the process add color to the floor?
No. However,
if color is desired, there are options. The system could be used
with an acid stain on new construction or with colored concrete;
integral or dry shake color additives.
How soon after concrete placement may the system be
applied?
Concrete cure rates vary with mixture, on a standard mix
design; 21-28 day strength is required before the process can begin.
With
a high early mix design, or a dry shake cement rich topping, the
restriction time can be significantly reduced
Is the system operationally friendly?
Yes. Mechanical
dust free stripping methods, traffic ability between phases of application,
and immediate decommissioning of treated areas
all serve to keep your facility operational during its make over.
What maintenance is required?
Weekly cleaning with floor
machine and biodegradable detergent is recommended. But water would
be sufficient. Any oil or petroleum
spill should be tended to quicle with oil soak and citrus based cleaner.
What waste is created by the preparation process?
Because
90% of the time we employ mechanical vs. Chemical stripping method
the waste created is inert, classified as standard rubbish
and be disposed of as such.
What are epoxy floor coatings?
Epoxy floor coatings can be used to repair, protect and decorate
floor surfaces. The thickness and composition of the epoxy coatings
will be determined by the expected use of the floor. High build
epoxies restore damaged areas and can be engineered to resist damage
from impact, abrasion and chemical attack. Thin mill epoxy coatings
can be colored and textured to create dramatic decorative effects.
On properly prepared surfaces, epoxy coatings will bond to the
substrate and remain affixed until they are physically moved or
worn through. Southern Floor Services offers a broad array of epoxy
floor coatings and can help determine the type of floor covering
that best meets your needs.
What are urethane floor coatings?
Urethane floor coatings offer superior resistance to chemicals and abrasion and
can be installed quickly and economically over structurally intact floors.
Urethanes bond well to a lightly profiled floor and have a rapid cure time.
Southern Floor Services' technicians are experrts at floor preparation, so
they can quickly and efficiently deliver a finished urethane floor surface.
Do you offer Floor Striping services?
Yes. Floor striping helps to maintain safety and order in industrial and warehouse
settings. We will stripe floors for forklift, truck, car, and pedestrian traffic.
We also provide concrete stripping for yellow safety lines. Southern Floor
Services' technicians use a variety of techniques to deliver floor striping
to meet your
needs. Heavily
profiled,
100% solids
filled stripes are permanent and will last the life of the plant with minimal
maintenance. Lightly profiled, urethane (MCU) filled stripes are durable, install
quickly and can later be removed.
How will I benefit from the polished concrete system?
Facts:
- Improves light reflectivity, thus brightness in the building
studies show up to 30% brighter, improving safety and quality
control.
- Reduces cleaning time thus saving money on housekeeping
as much as 180 man hours per month recorded in some facilities.
- Improves the durability of surface, increases 400% friction,
32% spill, thus making a facility that will set you up for the
long
haul and reduce maintenance cost.
Opinions:
- Provide you employees with a tidy, attractive work place and
they will provide you with labor worth paying for.
- Show your
employees how important image is to you and they will produce
a product to build an empire on.
- Show your employees how much you
care about your facility and they will begin to feel the same
way.
If your facility is new construction, please contact us so that
we may coordinate scheduling in the planning phase.
